DA Recap: Orlando City U16s sweep

EDITOR’S NOTE: With a heavy high school weekend slate, the Development Academy U13-14 Showcase and other events, we are delivering a combined Academy U16 and U18 notebook this week. We will return to the usual U16 Notebook and U18 Notebook next week.

Under-16 Notes

It was good to be the frontrunner over the weekend.

The seven division leaders from last week combined for an 8-0 showing over the weekend as all seven retained their first-place standings.

Orlando City made the greatest stride, going on the road to sweep North Carolina programs Capital Area RailHawks 2-1 and North Carolina Fusion 2-0. Cormac Begley scored a goal in each match, pushing his season total to four goals. The sweep moved Orlando City to 11-1 on the season and ut the squad a comfortable distance ahead of second-place Georgia United.

FC Dallas, Chicago Magic PSG, PDA and New York Red Bulls all won lopsided matches.

Duncan James scored a pair of goals in his FC Dallas season debut, which ended as a 4-0 win over Andromeda. Stephen Payne netted three goals in Chicago Magic PSG’s 4-1 win over Indiana Fire. Ethan Lochner scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season for New York Red Bulls, while Mevlan Lebiti added two, as well, in the team’s 50- victory over FC Bolts Celtic.

Division leaders Real Salt Lake-AZ and San Jose Earthquakes won, as well.

Under-18 Notes

Real Salt Lake-AZ‘s perfect run is over, but it hardly matters.

The West Coast power allowed a late goal in a 1-1 draw with San Diego Surf. At 5-0-1, 2.67, Real Salt Lake-AZ holds a comfortable lead over LA Galaxy (5-1-2, 2.13) in the Southwest Division.

FC Dallas, a week after falling from first place in the Frontier Division, finds itself back in first place this week. The team’s 5-0 win over Andromeda, coupled with the Colorado Rush splitting a pair of matches, moves the Texas program back in front of the 13-team race. Coy Craft scored twice in FC Dallas’ victory. His three goals this season ties him for the team lead in a very balanced offensive attack. Eleven players have combined for FC Dallas’ 22 goals this season as the team is off to a 6-1-2 start.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s, PDA, New York Red Bulls, Capital Area RailHawks and De Anza Force retained their first-place division positions.
