DA U18 Recap: SSM states its case for No. 1

Shattuck-St. Mary’s delivered a weekend sweep of the Chicago Fire and Chicago Magic PSG to remain undefeated and now a clear No. 1 in the Mid-America Division.

SSM will move up in this week’s StudentSports.com DA U18 Top 10, where it was No. 7 last week.

Elsewhere, few top teams were in action this past weekend, meaning most of the results altered the standings from third to last place.

The following are highlights from this past weekend:

East

Leading the Way: Northeast - 1. New York Red Bulls (2-0-1, 2.33), 2. Albertson SC (4-0-3, 2.14). Atlantic - 1. PDA (7-0-0, 3.00); 2. Bethesda-Olney (4-1, 2.40). Southeast - 1. Capital Area RailHawks (6-0-1, 2.71), 2. Carolina Rapids (5-1-1, 2.29).

Who’s Hot: Montreal Impact, which got a late start relative to other East Conference teams, pinned a 5-0 defeat on the New England Revolution on Sunday to send notice they could be a challenger in the Northeast Division. The team is currently in third place.

Sunday
Kamil Pruszko delivered the match-winning goal in the 79th minute as BW Gottschee defeated Revolution Empire 1-0. … Five players scored as Montreal Impact defeated the New England Revolution 5-0. … PDA held off DC United 2-1. … Concorde Fire routed Orlando City 6-1. … Everton FC Westchester and Oakwood played to a 1-1 tie. … FC Bolts Celtic and Albertson SC played to a 3-3 tie.

Saturday
Tarik Klancevic and Gil Topaz scored in the first half to stake the Richmond Strikers to a 2-0 lead en route to a 2-1 win over Continental FC DELCO. … Drew Mahoney and Noah Blodget scored to give PA Classics a 2-1 win over the Richmond Kickers. … Paul Ille scored a pair of goals as the Concorde Fire defeated South Carolina United Battery 6-0. … Donald Mason and William Ramirez scored to lead the Capital Area RailHawks to a 2-1 win over Charlotte SA. … Preston Firnstahl’s first minute goal stood up as Virginia Rush stunned Baltimore Bays Chelsea 1-0. … Weston, which had scored four goals in five previous matches, exploded for seven in a 7-2 victory over Chargers SC. Daniel Gutierrez Salas led the way with three goals — all in the second half. … Georgia United’s Tyler Edwards and Orlando City’s Richard Prestridge each scored twice, but it was Edan Mendoza’s 90th minute goal that lifted Georgia United to a 3-2 victory. … Francisco Agrest scored twice as BSC CT Academy defeated Seacoast United 3-0. … Carolina Rapids defeated North Carolina Fusion 5-2. … Kendall defeated IMG Academy 1-0.

Leading the Way: Frontier - 1. Colorado Rush (3-0-0, 3.00) and FC Dallas (3-0-0, 3.00). Mid-America: 1. Shattuck-St. Mary’s (8-0-1, 2.78), 2. Chicago Magic PSG (6-1-1, 2.38).

Who’s Hot: It’s hard not to saddle Shattuck-St. Mary’s with this honor again this week. The Minnesota program swept a pair of Chicago frontrunners to distance itself from the pack in the Mid-America Division.

Mark Lupenec scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute. … Minnesota Thunder Academy salvaged a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire as Sidney McClain scored in the 90th minute. … Jaime Colin scored in the 89th minute as FC Wisconsin upended CSA Wolves 1-0. … Indiana Fire United to got goals after the 75th minute to eat Scott Gallagher-Mo. 3-1.

West

Leading the Way: Northwest - 1. Crossfire Premier (6-0-2, 2.50), 2. De Anza Force (5-0-2, 2.43). Southwest - 1. Real Salt Lake-AZ (3-0-0, 3.00) and Real So Cal (2-0-0, 3.00).

Who’s Hot: Nomads win over San Diego moved this SoCal team into a fourth-place tie, just on the heels of third-place LA Galaxy.

The Vancouver Whitecaps edged San Juan SC 1-0.
