The Opening 2014 Watch List – Running Backs

Rodney Anderson flashed major speed at the Dallas NFTC

Rodney Anderson flashed major speed at the Houston NFSC

With the Journey to The Opening 2014 set to begin February 1st in New Jersey, it’s time to take a look at the 2015 prospects who’ve popped up on the radar of the Student Sports staff and college coaches around the country.  All week long we’ll be releasing position-by-position watch lists of the top 2015 prospects for The Opening 2014.  These players, plus many others, will continue to be evaluated at Nike Football SPARQ CombinesNike Football Training Camps, and most importantly, on tape, with selections beginning February 1st at the New Jersey NFSC. Let’s check out the top running backs in the Class of 2015:

Rodney Anderson (Katy, Texas) - 6-0.5, 205
Texas A&M commit battled injuries to rosh for 1,910 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior. Big, physical back posted a 109.29 SPARQ at the Houston Nike SPARQ Combine and will go into his senior year with 75 career touchdowns on the ground.
Malik Dear (Murrah, Jackson, Miss.) - 5-9.5, 201
Two-time All-State selection rushed for 1,893 yards and 21 TD's. Posted a 110.67 SPARQ Rating including a 4.45 40 and 34.9 inch vertical jump last spring. Alabama, Ole Miss and USC are amongst his early offers.
Taj Griffin (McEachern, Powder Springs, Ga.) - 5-9, 171
There may not be a more explosive back in the Class of '15 than Griffin, and colleges seem to agree as he's already pushing 20 offers. The speedster attended the Atlanta Nike SPARQ Combine for the third straight year this spring, upping his SPARQ Rating to 105.42 from 91.50 the prior spring by running a 4.43 40 and jumping 40 inches.
Bryce Love (Rolesville, Wake Forest, N.C.) - 5-9, 178
Speed is the calling card for Love, who set USA Track & Field records in the 100 & 200 meters for the 13-14 age group in junior high. Ran for 1,973 yards and 30 TD's as a junior.
Sotonye "Soso" Jamabo (Plano West, Plano, Texas) - 6-2.5, 200
Jamabo logged 1,077 yards and 10 TD's on the ground with another 225 yards receiving as a junior. Displayed a combination of size and acceleration at the Dallas NFTC that very few backs have possessed over the past few recruiting cycles.
Triston Luke (Fort Campbell, Kent.) - 5-7, 175
Luke put his name on the map at the Memphis NFTC in April, earning RB MVP honors after putting on a dazzling display in drills and testing off the charts with a 106.32 SPARQ Rating.
Jacques Patrick (Timber Creek, Orlando, Fla.) - 6-2, 206
Class 8A all-state pick rushed for 2,153 yards and 30 touchdowns in just 10 games as a junior at Timber Creek.
Malik Roberson (Serra, Gardena, Calif.) - 5-6, 172
Roberson will come into the spring as an under-the-radar prospect after missing his junior year with an ACL Injury. Back in 2012 as a sophomore, Roberson rushed for 1,506 yards and 13 touchdowns. He's not the biggest but he maybe the fastest back in this class, with a 10.46 100 meter dash time.
Jordan Stevenson (Skyline, Dallas, Texas) - 5-8, 185
Skyline is known for pumping out D-I talent and Stevenson will be the headliner in the Class of '15. Not the biggest back but a home-run threat every time he touches the ball, as evidenced by his 2,019 yards as a junior.
Eric Swinney (Sandy Creek, Tyrone, Ga.) - 5-9, 179
Class AAAA 2nd Team All-State selection clocked a 4.52 40 and jumping 35.2 inches in the vertical on his way to a 105.63 SPARQ Rating at last year's Atlanta Nike Camp.

Watched Anderson at Texas state championship this year at Cowboy stadium.
Good size for RB but didn’t see the speed referenced in this article and not much “wiggle”. More of a straight line back. Not sure how his running style will fit with A&M’s spread attack but I am sure the coaches have something in mind.
