The Opening 2014 Official Roster

The Opening presented by Nike Football, is four days of dynamic training, coaching and competition for many of the country’s most elite high school football players. Every position and every aspect of the game will be highlighted over the course of the four-day program that runs in early July and is held at Nike World Headquarters in Oregon.

The event will crown winners for the Nike 7ON tournament, Nike Linemen Challenge, and SPARQ Rating National Championship. Designed to give student-athletes the training and knowledge to develop their speed, explosiveness and position skills, The Opening brings together top performers from all of the Nike Football Training Camps and Nike Football SPARQ Combines, combined with other top prospects – all battling for the chance to claim ultimate bragging rights.

Several of Nike’s world-class football athletes will also be on hand during the tournament to assist in coaching and provide insights into athletic training at the highest level and what it takes to succeed on and off the football field.

The Opening has quickly become the high profile high school football event in the nation. Last year it drew media coverage from ESPN.com, Scout.com, 247sports.com, Rivals.com, USA Today and every other major recruiting website, as well as being featured with eight hours of broadcast on ESPNU.

Guys, there are 3 underclassmen going to the Opening this year. keep up the hard work and it will pay for itself. When I told my boy that 3 will be going he said “only 3 in the entire country”? He looked at it as a bad thing I look at it as “son, you could be one of the 3″. Good luck to all.

Hi, I am a 5 foot 10in wide receiver (class of 2016) of from the Dallas,Tx area, and my goal is to get invited to the opening in 2015. So I just wanted to ask that if I get a very high sparq rating at my local nike sparq combine camp, will I get invited to the opening in 2015 as wide receiver that is not highly recruited like the other prospects? Please give me an answer to my question, because I want to be a prospect that will be getting recruited be other division one colleges and get scholarship offers to play wide receiver and to hopefully run track to prove people wrong. I am willing to put in the work for it just like I do in the classroom. Thank You

That is one way to get an invite to The Opening, but more than likely, it is a better way to get an invite to an NFTC where your football skills can be highlighted better than at a NFSC. Many factors go into an Opening selection – is not one-dimensional – but getting to an NFSC, scoring high and then getting a consideration to an NFTC is the most logical way. Your coach can also recommend you and your play on the field in the fall is another great indicator of consideration for any of the elite events. Good luck!

Hi, kickers are invited to the opening?

    • kleetch

      August 28, 2014 at 1:45 pm

No, I’m sorry. We do not use kickers in our 7-on-7 competitions, therefore, no kickers qualify to come.

can you walk on to an NFTC camp

    • kleetch

      March 17, 2014 at 10:33 am

No, but you can be considered ahead of time: Q: How does a player get registered to attend a NFTC?
A: The NFTCs are free but space is limited in order to maximize the experience for all involved. Registration information is sent out to top players/recruits who are in the Class of 2015 as well as top underclassmen. Players can be recommended by their coach as a high level recruit to pre-register for the camp. If a recommendation is not possible then a player may email a link to video highlights or DVD so he can be evaluated. A third way to get registered is to test well at a Nike Football SPARQ Combine.

Coaches can send in recommendations as soon as the season is complete; please include 2013 statistics, height, weight, position, honors/accolades, etc. with online or DVD highlights if possible.

For more information regarding the 2014 NFTCs, if you are a coach recommending a player or wanting to work the camp, or to submit an all-state or all-area team with nominees on it, please contact:

Ok say if you were registered to go to the Nike Football Training Camp but you did well enough at the combine to get an invite to the opening, do you still have to go to the Camp?

You do not have to, but it’s a great event and more ways to compete against players that are your caliber. It sets you up nicely for The Opening.

    March 10, 2014 at 4:20 pm

My son Robert Chatman III participated at the Los Angeles combine on March 8th 2014. I went through all of the head shots but I did not see one of him. He would have had on a white Nike headband. Any chance of getting his picture put in with the rest of the players? Thanks!

    • Bob

      March 17, 2014 at 1:14 pm

We’re sorry that you are unable to locate his headshot. All of the headshots taken that day have been posted online and listed in alphabetical order by first name. There are a couple reasons an athlete’s headshot would be missing. He may have skipped the photo station all together. Or he may have lost his card after taking his headshot and we were not able to link his information to the headshot.

Once a highlight video is submitted, is it reviewed prior to the registered combine? If so, will you reach out to that athlete and his parents prior to the combine if the video is a good highlight video? Lastly, is there a chart with the Sparq formula made available for private calculations?

what is a good sparq combine rating to have to get invited to the opening ?

    • todd

      February 25, 2014 at 8:52 am

The SPARQ Rating is not the sole factor in determining Opening invites. It’s based off a combo of your testing times, your tape and your performance at Nike Camps. A score above 130 would be hard to ignore though.
