With the 2014 season nearly upon us its time to update the player rankings that were released in the fall. This time they will be released by region and today’s region is Texas/Louisiana. There are a ton of quality ball players in these states and it looks like Texas for sure will have another strong crop of arms.

Tyler Kolek is the No. 1 guy in Texas. Standing in at 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, Kolek has one of the best arms in the class. He is a power guy with a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and at the Area Code Workout in June he touched 100 a couple of times. The righty out of Shepherd, Texas his headed to TCU, but that’s only if he doesn’t sign out of high school. In addition to playing in the Area Code Games, Kolek played in the Perfect Game All-American Game presented by Rawlings.

Another name to watch this year is Stone Garrett an outfielder from George Ranch (Sugar Land, Texas). The 6-foot-3, 200 pounder is headed off to Rice in the fall. He was a two-time Area Code participant for the Texas Rangers and has a solid arm in the outfield and can swing the bat, too.

One player to watch, a sleeper of sorts, is Tristan Gray out of Elkins (Missouri City, Texas). Gray is a shortstop who stands in at 6-foor-3, 165-pounds. Solid defensively he, like Garrett, is headed to Rice.
